I have a weird job. I hear things in my head, record them, and upload them as shared files marked something like “Diamonds - Live Arrangement - 92 BPM - B minor.wav” to my friends. Then we try to find days we can get together and rehearse amidst the busyness of work, family, pets, PTO (which we want to go to actual time-off, not rehearsals). When the brain fog lifts, and the spreadsheets, calendars, notepads, and Ableton Live sessions are stacked, we’re ready… for a test run.

A lot of us probably grew up with the idea that the music industry is glamorous and chaotic, like some kind of crash out you’d see in a Real Housewives kind of scenario or something. I might be doing it wrong, but my world looks a lot more like being an accountant — for an accounting firm.
